About Aks-e-Noor

Aks-e-Noor is the pearl and light-gold line: jhumkas, chandbalis, studs, threaders, hoops, ear cuffs, a maang tikka, a nath, a passa, a choker and a couple of small pearl rings and bracelets. It is the easiest place in the collection to start, and the easiest to wear on an ordinary day.

Pearls are used in three ways here. Round freshwater pearls appear as studs and along the choker, where evenness matters most. Small seed pearls are used as fringes and edging on the jhumkas, nath and passa, which is what gives those pieces their movement. Baroque pearls — irregular by nature — hang from the hoops, so each pair is slightly different from the photograph in shape while matching in size and colour.

Mounts are 18K gold throughout, and weights run from about 2.4 grams for the ear cuff to roughly 12.4 grams for the choker. Nothing in this line is heavy enough to pull on a piercing over a long day, which is deliberate. The ear cuff and the threader earrings need no additional piercing at all, and the nath is available as a clip style if you ask before ordering.

Pearls need slightly different care from gold. Put them on after perfume and hairspray, not before; wipe them with a soft damp cloth after wearing and let them dry flat; and never use jewellery dips, ultrasonic cleaners or anything containing alcohol. Stored in the pouch we ship them in, rather than loose in a box with harder stones, a strand will keep its lustre for years.

All prices are in US dollars. Every piece is hallmarked, weighed and photographed before listing, and ships with its certificate in insured, tracked packaging that is ready to give as a gift.
